How Can We Help You?

Why Are Free Senior Services in Bakersfield Vital?

Durable Medical Equipment (DME) / Medical Mobility Equipment: What Is It and Why Does It Matter?
Durable medical equipment includes essential items such as wheelchairs, walkers, shower chairs, and bathroom safety tools. These tools enhance mobility, reduce fall risks, and help seniors live independently. For many older adults in need, the cost of durable medical equipment is expensive.
By offering free medical equipment in Bakersfield through our Equip for Life Program, we bridge the gap for seniors who would otherwise go without these life-enhancing resources.

Personal Hygiene Kits: Essential and Life-Changing!
Personal hygiene kits provide seniors with necessary items such as oral care products, skincare essentials, grooming tools, and essential hygiene items. Many seniors living on fixed incomes struggle to afford these basics, which are crucial for their dignity, health, and confidence. Providing these resources will ensure that seniors will not have to compromise on their well-being due to financial hardship!

Why Do These Resources Matter?

  • Economic Hardship: Over 35% of seniors aged 65+ in Kern County lack enough income to cover basic needs, with many living below 138% of the federal poverty level (Justice in Aging, 2023).
  • Healthcare Gaps: Kern County is home to over 7,900 uninsured seniors aged 55 and older, making access to free medical equipment in Bakersfield even more critical (Data Census, 2023).
  • Reduce Medical Waste and Promote Sustainability: It was estimated, in the early 1990’s, that two million tons of medical waste is produced each year (New York Times, 1990).
  • Durable medical equipment is the most commonly used medical equipment and each piece of equipment can be used for a life cycle of up to 6 uses (Convalescent Aid Society, 2024).
  • Independence and Dignity: Whether through mobility aids or personal hygiene items, these free senior services in Bakersfield allow older adults to lead safe, dignified, and independent lives!
